Word of the Year: Occupy

Merriam-Webster may have named “pragmatic” the word of the year (yawn) but I am declaring “occupy” the word of the year; verbs trump adjectives, anyway. If the word occupy wasn’t on our lips this year, it was on our screens. The word not only found immediate acceptance in the cultural lexicon, the movement inspired pop art the likes of which we haven’t seen in some time. My favorite of these were the memes that spawned from the unfortunate pepper spray incident at UC Davis. Here are a few to enjoy (while never forgetting the reason they exist).

Mmm the taste of oppression.

What would Spock do?

Turning the other cheek.

I got yer constitution right here.

We're not in Kansas anymore.
